El mejor viaje fue la luna de miel con mi esposa, nos casamos el 12 de Febrero de este año, nos fuimos el 14 a la madrugada para La Serena, Chile. Nos fuimos por 15 días, estuvo buenísimo, un lugar muy tranquilo, nada que ver con Viña del Mar o Reñaca, no hay lugares abiertos después de las 21:00 hs!!! Eso estuvo un poco aburrido, pero a 50 km. aproximadamente hacia el norte, existe un lugar de ensueño que se llama Totoralillo, es hermoso, parece una playa del caribe!! El agua es más cálida y la arena es blanca, hermoso!! Consejo: si van a la Serena, vayan a Totoralillo. Otro consejo: para los amantes de la gente, la movida y la noche, no vayan a la Serena porque no hay nada de eso y vayan antes de la 2º quincena de Febrero, ya que el clima cambia, permanece más tiempo nublado a partir del 15 de Febrero y está más fresco. No es un lugar caro, nosotros nos llevamos bastante mercadería y cocinaba mi esposa, pero habían muchas cosas comestibles que tenían los precios igual que en Mendoza o más baratos!! El pan y la carne estaban más caros, pero lo demás estaba como en Mendoza. Conocimos Totoralillo, Tongoy, Coquimbo y Guanaqueros (es una ciudad horrible). En Coquimbo hay unos restoranes muy buenos de mariscos! Cerca está la playa La Herradura que no tiene olas, para los niños es genial. Totoralillo y Tongoy son lugares hermosos, hay unas empanadas de mariscos muuuuuuuuuuuy ricas!! Y el agua es más cálida que en La Serena y hay menos viento. Cómo me iría ahora!!!!!!!! Jua, pero hay que esperar….. queda poquito…

I had a total of three weeks to travel to South America, so I decided to limit my time between Brazil and Argentina. My first Che Lagarto stop (of many) was at Che Lagarto Copacabana. It was my first time in Rio de Janeiro, and I really liked the location and atmosphere of the hostel. The staff, for the most part, were friendly and helpful. They guided me to the beach, and to all the different attractions in the area. There was a slight issue with things disappearing from only one of the hostel rooms (such as toothpaste, deodorant, a book) but the manager at the Che Lagarto Copacabana seemed to really try to determine why things were going missing, and grilled each and every one of the staff about it. I would most definitely recommend the Che Lagarto Copacabana for friends to stay in the future. They had a very welcoming atmosphere, and I ended up meeting people from around the world. Having made these new friends, I ended up hanging out with them both in Rio de Janeiro, and in some other cities as well.
Which place is a must in that destination and why?
My favourite place to visit in Rio de Janeiro was the top of Sugar Loaf mountain. I took a day tour around the city seeing many sites such as the statue of Jesus overlooking the city, and the aquaducts of Lapa, but the view from atop Sugar Loaf mountain really stands out. While it was raining for the majority of my time in Rio de Janeiro, and thus cloudy when I reached the top of Sugar Loaf mountain, it didn´t matter. The peak of Sugar Loaf mountain still offered the most incredible views of the city. If I could have, I would have stayed up at the top all day – just sitting and looking out onto the city.
What is your best travel tip?
The one travel tip I would offer is be sure to read up on luggage allowance for flights. I found that flying internationally allowed for a greater baggage allowance than a domestic flight, so I had to pay more for heavier bags

What did you like the most about your destination?
Being a major city is not always an advantage. Crowdy, polluted, attracting all the wannabies etc. , it can affect the charm of the town. If every city in Brasil is somehow interesting, not all of them “Have it” as much as Rio de Janeiro. And there are few privileges in life like the one of exploring a city from so many perspectives, physically and emotionnaly. From mountain high global view points of the city to wandering around and getting lost in wonderfull streets to deeping on one of the fabulous beaches, you can visit Rio from top to bottom. That’s the same about the population, from top rich to bottom poor and the border is close. One day you can zip up expensive cocktails with a movie star and next day joke with kids in the favelas, you just need to temper your approch. That’s the beauty of Rio, its diversity and welcoming heart, arms opened like the Christ on top of the mountain.
What is your best travel tip?
There are two kind of people, the tourists and the travelers. The first one often being on a short expensive hollyday, the second one, on a long cheap journey. Therefore my best advice would be: Take you time! Travel slowly, transport are always a big part of the budget. Read as much as possible about your destination to find out the best bargain in a matter of accomodation, restaurant, bus, plane. Never book organized tours. There is always a way to do it on your own for cheaper and without the crowd. Plus the rewarding feeling of “I made it” and the glimpse of sarcasm looking at those jumping in the bus, obeying to the signal of the tour guide like cows. They don’t have the time, but you do!
What are the must visit places of Rio?
Rio is The destination of Brasil. People travelling in all south America don’t always have the time (and the money) to cross all the way through this huge country but they rarely miss to go to Rio de Janeiro if nowhere else. The must go places are the famous beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, for their beauty, their crowd, their atmosphere and beautifull sunsets. Walking along the shore on a sunday when traffic is banned is a must do. Not drinking coconut water and eating acai should be punishible by the law. On a clear day a visit to the view point of the Christ and the Sugar Bread are obvious choices. But don’t forget to also walk around Santa Teresa for other cool aspects of the city. And in Zona sul don’t miss kilo-restaurants with their gorgeous and tasty buffet such as Monchique. Once you’ve seen all the wonders and satitisfied your appetite, mingle with the crowd for a caipirihna and a danse, or a beer and a football game (watching, not playing… but never you know..) And after that you will probably want to come back to Rio for more.
Rose Nicolini: I am a 29 years old french photographer. South America is the last step of my trip. It has been now 6 years since I left home with the idea of going away for a while. I didn’t plan it that long, but life has its share of surprises. With my boyfriend met in Malaysia, we started in Jamaica, went all the way down throught central America, and now we are doing a big loop in south America, going south on the east coast (the Guyanas, Brasil etc.) and going back north via the west coast (Argentina, Chile etc.) until Ecuador.
¿Cuál es el viaje que más recordás?
El viaje que más recuerdo fueron unas vacaciones en Chile, fuimos con mi esposo en el
Romina y su pareja en sus vacaciones en Chile
año 2010 y él no había ido nunca. Le encantó!!! Anduvimos por Viña del Mar, Concón, Reñaca, Zapallar, Papudo, Maitencillos y Algarrobo que se encuentra aproximadamente a unos 110 km al sur de Viña del Mar.
Nos fuimos en auto, entonces tuvimos la posibilidad de andar mucho y conocer muchos lugares, estuvo buenísimo. Lo que no podés hacer si te vas en colectivo porque los tours son bastante caros y estás muy limitado a conocer los lugares donde te llevan. Eso lo pensamos antes de ir, ja , ahorramos para comprarnos el auto antes de las vacaciones y así poder irnos en auto para poder conocer más!! jajajaj. Bien pensado!!
Nos encantó el viaje, la pasamos E S P E C T A C U L A R!!!!! Estuvimos parando en Concón, muy bonito, pero para disfrutar de la playa nos íbamos a otros lugares, generalmente a Reñaca, que es hermoso y lleno de atracciones, locales y vida nocturna. Las playas son muy bonitas, la vista que hay desde las playas es genial.
A Viña del Mar ibamos de shopping a la tarde o cuando estaba nublado en la mañana, pero con las cosas en el baúl del auto siempre listas para la playa!!!! Amo el sol, me encanta tomar sol, pienso que debe ser por eso que me gusta tanto la playa.
Cuando fuimos a Algarrobo anduvimos en la Banana, comimos unos completos gigantes, paseamos y compramos en los locales de artesanías (hermosísimos). Aquí la playa es angosta y la arena es gruesa, pero es muy bonita porque está llena de caracoles muy chiquitos (consejo: no andar descalzo por esta arena.. auchh!) pero el lugar es hermoso, el pueblo es muy pintoresco.
Los demás lugares también fueron bellísimos, Zapallar es precioso pero, les cuento como consejo, es muy caro, hay que llevar lo que uno vaya a consumir en el día y tratar de no comprar nada allí.
En Maitencillos, hubo mucho viento el día que fuimos, pero es muy bonito. Papudo es hermoso, el día estuvo genial, sol pleno y sin viento.
Y bueno Reñaca y Viña son espectaculares, paseamos mucho, comimos mucho jeje (nos trajimos unos kilitos de más…), conocimos mucho y al verano siguiente nos casamos jajajaja. Fue un viaje efectivo jajajaj!
Consejo para pasarla bien, poder tomar sol y disfrutar de la playita cerquita de casa….. hay que ir a estos maravillosos lugares!

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de tu viaje?
Sentirme libre sin preocupaciones y saber que podré descansar y disfrutar en algún bello lugar y cómodo junto a mi esposa. Los dos regaloneando después de un año agotador de trabajo y del colegio de los niños. Cuando llega el momento de salir de vacaciones es como regresar a ser niño de nuevo, la felicidad brota en nosotros. Nos reímos de todo, nos comportamos como tontos, nos enamoramos más. Por eso me encantan las vacaciones y más si viajo a un lugar bello donde me reciben bien y me atienden así solo debo preocuparme de mí y de mi amor y solo disfrutar.
También me gusta viajar porque uno aprende de otras culturas entre lenguas, comidas y ritos dependiendo qué tipo de viaje ya sea dentro o fuera del país residente. Me encanta la naturaleza, la desconección con la ciudad, con todo lo tecnológico. Por eso varío mis tipos de viajes, siempre busco algo distinto a lo cotidiano.
¿Qué lugares te gustaría visitar próximamente?
Los lugares que visitaría son Valparaíso y el litoral central para celebrar mi aniversario número 9 de matrimonio. Un lugar como la costa es ideal para disfrutar en pareja ya que la temperatura ambiente y el clima es ideal. Sobre todo porque hay un Che Lagarto en Viña jajjaja así ustedes me hospedan para disfrutar mejor.
¿Cuál es tu Travel Tip?
Mi mejor truco para viajar es guardar todo etiquetado y separado para no confundirme después. Como anécdota les cuento que hago una lista de todo lo que llevo y repaso ajjjajaja así nunca me retan por desordenado o porque olvidé algo ya que en muchos viajes perdí ropa y accesorios.
